This is very annoying, and I'm starting to think it may be more of an issue with Java or Windows as it is the same issue across all of the launchers. Again, it could not get the version list. Finally, I tried the legacy version of TLauncher. At this point, I was very frustrated as nothing I did seemed to work.

When I went to make a new instance, a window popped up basically saying that it couldn't download file for the list of versions, and as a result I couldn't play Minecraft. I set it up with Java Runtime 8 Update 51. My internet connection was good, the time and date were set correctly and I had tried turning off the firewall, but all to no avail. I was very confused because this didn't happen at all last time I installed Betacraft. When I downloaded the Betacraft launcher and tried to download Minecraft beta 1.7.3, it says that the download failed because I had no stable internet connection (all pictures below). I didn't know what to do, so I wiped the disk and did a fresh install of Windows XP. After I got all of my stuff downloaded I tried to dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7 together, and for some weird reason, the audio driver for XP would get deleted every time I would reboot. Recently, I have tried to install Minecraft on my EEE PC (and before you say that's impossible, I have done it before using the Betacraft launcher).
